SANDBOX developed and implemented the Cloncurry Waterwise Service, on behalf of our client Local Government Infrastructure Services (LGIS). Here at SANDBOX we always knew it was a winner. With an exciting concept and an experienced client it was one of those projects that was a privilege to be involved in.
Now others have recognised it as a winner as well.
The Cloncurry Waterwise Service won Best Nonprofit/Social Marketing In Practice Paper, at the 2010 International Nonprofit & Social Marketing Conference.
The Cloncurry Waterwise Service was a community based social marketing program that formed part of a bigger water demand and supply strategy. The project combined a practical water efficiency audit and retrofit with a localised community education program.
By late 2008 Cloncurry was in a severe drought situation that required urgent action. The program brief presented us with significant design and logistics challenges - limited water consumption and production data, aggressive take up targets, short delivery timeframes, geographical isolation and significant behavioural change barriers to name a few.
We were able to overcome these challenges and achieve over 85 per cent take up of the service across both residents and businesses resulting in an estimated 50 megalitres of ongoing annual water savings.
